Colleges & Universities

Higher education plays a pivotal role in the promotion and support of an innovation economy here in Vermont. To provide access to a corps of professionals, trained interns, and collegiate resources, VCET has established strategic a strategic affiliation with UVM and critical relationships with 8 other Vermont colleges and universities located throughout the State.

Entrepreneur benefits from this collegiate network are too many to list, but today include:

Product Development Support - UVM’s SEED program and Norwich University’s engineering program partner engineering students with entrepreneurs to develop manufacturing-grade products. UVM’s Instrumentation and Model Facility (IMF) is a unique source for custom instrumentation design, development and fabrication. The staff at IMF can either take your ideas and basic requirements and turn them into an instrument,or fabricate apparatus from your detailed specifications and drawings.

Student Consulting Teams - Middlebury College’s MiddCOREplus and Norwich University run semester long consulting projects where student led teams partner with entrepreneurs to create, innovate, and implement their ideas.

Student Interns - Johnson State College, Champlain College, and Middlebury College among others have internship programs for their students to work with entrepreneurs.

Incubators - Lyndon State College's Incubator without Walls supports businesses in the Derby-Newport area. The Vermont Tech Enterprise Center, operated by Vermont Technical College, is a business incubator located in central Vermont specifically designed with flexible leases and a unique mix of space and services to support growth companies.

Faculty & Researchers - Some of the most capable people on the planet teach, research and live here in Vermont.  This can be a great resource for entrepreneurs to access when appropriate.  Collaboration opportunities include networking for technical assistance, joint research and development, grant applications, interns, and as advisory board members.
