Thomas Rainey
Thomas Rainey is the President of VCET and has been involved in its planning and implementation since June, 2002. He was also one of the founders of the Vermont Business Incubator Network.
From 2001 to 2004, Tom was President of Rainey & Associates, a consulting firm that developed business and economic development strategies, as well as feasibility and fundraising plans, for clients such as Dartmouth College, the State of New Hampshire, the University of Vermont, and the towns of Bennington, Springfield and Windsor, Vermont. Tom also served as a consultant on the implementation of the Dartmouth Regional Technology Center in Lebanon, NH, raising $3.8 million and developing initial real estate and business plans. Other Rainey & Associates consulting clients included the Vermont Technology Council, the New Hampshire Industrial Research Center, the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse Health Sciences Center, and the University of New Hampshire.
In previous positions, Tom was Director of the Florida/NASA Business Incubation Centers (1998 - 2000), Director of the St. Louis (Missouri) Enterprise Centers (1994 - 1995), Business Development Manager for the St. Louis Defense Adjustment Program (1994 - 1995), and Executive Director of the California Central Coast World Trade Center (1989 - 1992).
Tom has provided management consulting services to start-up incubators in the United States and Europe. He has also trained over 100 government and business managers from Eastern Europe and over 50 incubator and science park managers and developers in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark.
Tom holds a Master's Degree in Science and Technology Policy from Lund University, Sweden; a Graduate Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Stockholm, Sweden; and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis.
